Welcome to this course on the Baroque Art of Luca Giordano. Luca Giordano, 1634 1705, was a Master Neapolitan late Baroque painter and printmaker in etching. A virtuoso of figurative painting. Fluent and decorative, he worked successfully in Naples, Rome, Florence and Venice, before spending a decade in Spain. One of his nicknames, Proteus, was acquired as a result of his reputed skill in producing pastiches, an artistic work in a style that imitates that of another work, artist, or period. His other nickname was Luca Fa Presto, because he is said to have painted a large altarpiece in one day, it is no wonder that his output, both in oil and in fresco, was enormous. Luca Giordanos range of subject matter was broad, however most of his pictures deal with religious or mythological themes.
